Known more as a tourist destination or a place visited by pilgrims than as a natural park, Gargano means sun, white houses and holidays; here there are beautiful villages such as Peschici, Vieste, the Foresta Umbra, the Tremiti Islands, among the most amazing places to be visited in Italy. This area of the Puglia Region has also a rich biodiversity, due to its morphological structure and to its history.

When the Appennines started to rise, hundreds of millions of years ago, the Gargano there was not yet, it was only an island. Later, it joined the country by giving life to the typical "spur" of Italy. The islander origins of the promontory has the same influenced its evolution: green areas, a lot of coasta lakes, islands, stones... It is a really rich and various habitat, not so common in Italy. A puzzle of different settings in a very little space that makes the Gargano more like and island than a mount, that is only 1.065 meters high.
